#1- Yamaha S-YXG-50 Software Synthesizer Check out the latest Yamaha S-YXG-50 Software Synthesizer, released by Yamaha. What’s it used for- to play midi files without resorting to expensive Hardware. Superb, I must say. Supports 128 Voices, supports Directsound and works with MMX. Listening to midis will never be the same again! Requirements- Heavy- Use SYXG-50 with 166 MMX+ only. Else d’load the SYXG-20. Pros- Great reproduction of sound, beats Wingroove. 128 voices, uses MMX. Cons- Rather heavy on CPU, default set to 70% usage. So better be careful. #2- Media Sequencer This is a small, neat proggie written by friend Vatsa to play multimedia files. So, if you are using Windows 98 or even IE 4.0+, then you can be assured that this fellow plays all your .mid, .rmi, .wav, .voc, .avi, .mod, .mp3 (if Windows supports) etc., files. If your Windows supports more formats, then you can play all of them using this! Sequencer is small, light, coded in Delphi, and fast. Supports playlists, minimise to tray, Explorer Integration and a number of other features, Constantly updated, and currently being reviewed by ZDNET , Dave Central, and other sites, this is a must have! Requirements- Soundcard, Windows 95x, and at least a 486. Pros- Small footprint, tray minimisation, Playlist Support Cons- Interface needs tweaking. Available from- https://members.tripod.com/~Vatsa Rating- ***** (5/5) #4- Midibase MidiBase is a great program which enables you to organize your midifiles in a decent and flexible environment. With it you can view, index and play your midifiles, all in one program ! Basically acts as a catalogue for your midi files. Cool stuff like gathering info from midi files, and a catalogue for 7000 midi files included! Superb stuff. Requirements- Windows 95x, Soundcard. Pros- Extremely cool program to catalogue a large collection of midis. Features make it one of a kind of program.
